Social distancing starts now!

With the craziness of COVID-19, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and planning for the upcoming weeks. Having CF, puts me and may others in the high-risk category which can be a bit nerve-racking.  So what am I doing about it?

I’ve started social distancing which means lots of time at home.  I’ve decided that I won’t be going to the gym any longer, but I won’t stop exercising. I’ve taken walks around my neighborhood and done some online workouts. It’s not the same but I need to keep moving!

I made several trips to the grocery store last week to get plenty food so we don’t have to leave the house to eat. Don’t worry folks - I didn’t go overboard.  I’m not responsible for the TP shortage!  If we all considered the rest of the people in our communities, and only bought what we need, we wouldn’t have the crazy shortages.

In fact, if we all were considerate of others in general during this time, we could help to eliminate the spreading of COVID-19.  It is our civic duty to make sure we aren’t spreading this virus or putting others at risk.

Can we survive if we get it? Yes, but not everyone can. There are thousands of people that are at a higher risk - people with CF (like me), those that are diabetic (like my nephew) and of course the elderly among may others.

Just because you are healthy and aren’t afraid to get sick, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t think about others. We can’t be selfish during this time.  We must put others in our thoughts when making decisions.

Sadly, there are people going about their lives that may be contagious.  And those that know they could be positive, don’t show enough consideration to the rest of us and purposely get on planes or attend gatherings. This is completely unacceptable.  We can do better as Americans, as human beings.

Before you decide to go out, think about your loved ones. Do you know someone that is high risk? I’d venture to say that almost everyone knows someone that they should protect. Is it your grandparents, a family member or friend battling cancer, a neighbor with health issues?  And if you don’t, then think of me and the other CFers out there that try everyday to keep themselves healthy.

So listen to what we are being told. Stay home! Please!
