Newest CF Study

I'm excited to be participating in a new CF Study with the Laboratory of Integrative Vascular and Exercise Physiology (LiveP for short)!!

This time the study is focusing on how antioxidants impact exercise in Cystic Fibrosis patients.  So, It will start with 2 separate visits in which I will be given antioxidants or a placebo and then exercise to determine the acute result.  After those, I'll take the medicine for 4 weeks and come back and test again.  Then do that 2 more times for a total of 12 weeks to determine the extended use impact.
My initial visit was July 14th.  I went in the afternoon and had all my initial vitals recorded (bone density, weight, lung functions).  Then, I max tested on the stationary bike.  I wasn't overly thrilled with my performance that day...my legs were tired!!
Then, I went back for my first of 2 acute visits yesterday (7/30).  I went in at 8am fasting - boo!!  They did an ultrasound of my arm and measured the artery with a cuff around my arm…

Bully Birthdays!

As you know, I love birthdays!! So, of course we have to celebrate our beloved 4 legged children :)

Sarge & Stella turned 4 on July 6th.  They were spoiled even more than usual, but we waited for their big treat until T-Bone's birthday on July 29th.

So, I went to the local pet store (Downtown Dog) and got 3 delicious looking treats, bought some party hats and headed outside!

To keep the peace, T-Bone enjoyed his snack in the yard.  When I handed it to him, he took off running!   Sarge & Stella enjoyed theirs on the screened in porch.

Oh, they make me smile!!

Happy Anniversary to Us!

It's hard to believe, but Will and I are celebrating our 9th anniversary today!  Am I really old enough to have been married that long?  Guess, that's what happens when you get married at 23.

Looking back over the past 9 years, I definitely didn't know what to expect.  I was marrying a 25 year old guy who loved golf and worked hard!  Not much has changed as far as that goes.  I figured we both be working, maybe have a dog or two, and just living life.  I never thought I'd have the joys of being a stay-at-home bulldog mom.  I never thought we would have a place in West Virginia where we are currently building a cabin!  I never thought we would have as many adventures as we do.  I'm one lucky gal :)

I'm beyond blessed to have Will.  He is kind, loving, beyond giving, and brilliant. He makes me want to be a better person, that's for sure.   I don't know anyone who gives so much of themselves to their family and career.

He definitely puts up with a lot fro…

Living Today

Yesterday was super exciting for me as my "Living Today" video for the CF Foundation went live!  If you haven't had the chance to view it, here you go:

So many people that I don't even know, have taken time to watch and learn about living with CF!  They have taken 4 minutes and 12 seconds out of their lives.  That's pretty amazing!!

I was nervous to hear what people would have to say, and I've been bombarded with kindness.  Thank you for the kind words, thank you for sharing the video, and thank you for inspiring me!

Pupdate: T-Bone Edition

Well, our beloved T-Bone has been with us for 7 months now.  And to celebrate, he had his bi-annual vet visit!  As usual he was good as gold!!

Eyes - they are looking good!  We will be continuing the twice daily drops to help with his dry eye.  But, he takes them like a champ, so not a problem.

Ears - they get gunky.  I clean them a few times a week, but that boy can rack up the crud.  Doc didn't see any infection in them, so that's great.  Just got to keep on cleaning them.  He gave them a good rinsing, which annoyed T-Bone.  But, I'm sure it felt good when all was said and done.

Knee - hasn't had any problems with his knee.  He came to us after having needed knee surgery last September.  We only have a few steps, but he handles them well.  Not signs of lameness or pain.

Teeth - they are great!  Granted the underbite is pretty intense ;)

Paws - he's been licking at his front left paw.  Looks like there is some irritation on the bottom of it.  I've been sprayin…

CF Updates

Hello friends!

Figured I should take a minute and get everyone filled in since my last CF appointment.  I tried my hardest to follow the doc's orders to vest twice a day.  I was probably 75% compliant.  I got a new Pari nebulizer which I believe I mentioned.  It works!  In the meantime, I dusted off my old nebulizer and used it...only it doesn't work for Cayston...just the Hypertonic Saline.  But, I was doing something, right?!?  I finished my Levaquin too!  I feel 100%!!! Woohoo!!

I was even a good patient and traveled to Indiana and West Virginia with my vest :)

Sadly, with all my crazy traveling, I didn't step foot in the gym the month of June - eek!  I got back on schedule and went to class yesterday.  Ouch!  My body definitely had gotten used to being lazy.  Today wasn't much better...coughed a bit in spin class, but man it felt good to exercise even though it hurt in the process - lol.

Hopefully, when I go back to the doctor on August 4th, I'll get to see imp…
