The adventure of the turkey burger

Will & I have been trying to be more conscious of the crap we are feeding ourselves, so we ventured out to attempt some turkey burgers for dinner yesterday.  It wouldn't be a true experiment if we didn't invite our best friends to participate with us - so they joined in for the chaos.  We had the pizza delivery number handy just in case of an epic failure!

To begin, we cut up some potatoes as Will saw something on TV where you put them directly on the grill to cook.  He cut up some onion and peppers too - I seasoned them with some EVOO, salt, pepper, & garlic powder.  First problem, some potatoes were a bit small and fell right through the cracks in the grill - Will did the cutting, so I didn't get blamed for this!  Then, second, we ran out of propane when it was time to put the burgers on.  So, we put the fries in the oven to finish.

Then, came time for the burgers.  Since the grill was ka-put, I figured we could just fry them on the stove.  I seasoned them a bit and got to cooking.  Not quite sure how long they took, but it wasn't bad.  We toasted some buns in the oven and were ready to eat.

Now, I've never had a turkey burger in my life, so I was rather nervous trying them (I'm a pretty picky eater - but when I find something I like, I'll eat every last bite).  Will & Matt took the first taste while Brandy & I watched.  They seemed to enjoy them.  So, us gals went for it.  Its very strange because its a burger, so I'm expecting to taste a hamburger, but yet the color is not the same.  I won't say it was awful, just not my cup of tea.  The fries however were fantastic!

I may give them one more try - next time, I'll patty them a bit thinner (didn't care for the thickness - although it was the same thickness I would use for a regular hamburger).  Second, I'd like them to be grilled just to see if that makes them better.  Overall rating:  Fries = 9, Turkey Burger = 5

Tonight, we'll grill some steaks - guess we better go get some propane first!

Humidity Sucks!

Darn the South Carolina humidity - it sure gets the best of me sometimes.  Will & I went for a bike ride on Saturday morning and my lungs were so tight.  I could tell the instant I stepped outside that the ride wasn't going to be as enjoyable as others have been, but I pedalled through it!  About half way through the coughing started...I'm sure people thought I was crazy, because I'd be riding and cough, then say "damn this cough!".  I get so frustrated when I cough.  Fortunately, this is the first time its happened - stupid humidity!!  I made it the 12 miles and felt great after I got in the air conditioned truck.  I will not give up!  Humidity or not, I'm riding when I want!

I finally had some Sour Patch Kids!  I waited all day because I was so afraid that I wouldn't be able to stop eating them!  So, I just had one of my small boxes the Easter Bunny brought.  My mouth was raw after eating them - its been so long the sugar just tore it up.  So, moderation in key in intergrating them back into my life :)

Ready for Easter

I'm beyond ready for Easter!  I can bust out my new white pants which I've been dying to wear and can devour my stash of Sour Patch Kids.  I actually did it - I didn't have a single one.  I almost had some Sour Patch Jelly Beans, but figured that my be cheating, so I saved them for Sunday too!  Every time I open the pantry, I have 3 bags staring back at me - ahh, the torture.  But I kept them there on purpose to show myself I can do it!  So on Easter, I'm thinking one bag for breakfast, one for lunch and the other for dinner.

Darn the Easter candy aisles though.  I was strolling down one the other day and it was torturous!  Not only have I given up Sour Patch Kids, I'm trying to watch what I eat in general so I can get in better shape.  I just wanted to eat everything in sight, even the stuff I don't like.  I bought some goodies for my friends/family BUT NOT FOR ME OR WILL.  I came home and munched on some carrots to fight off my cravings - not so yummy when you wish they were candy.  Sunday will be here soon enough and I'll binge on all the goodies from the Easter bunny :)

Just concluded week 1 of no Cayston and I'm feeling great :)  Although, I keep feeling like I'm forgetting to do something...then I have to tell myself I'm not - its my off time!

Got the results from Sophie's cardiologist and he confirmed her vet's findings of an enlarged heart and prescribed some meds....Enalapril (7.5mg - twice a day) & Spironolactone (25mg - once per day).  Before long, she's going to be taking as many pills as me :(  She's still acting as her normal self, so I'm trying to be positive and keep our spirits up that all will be OK.

Just started reading a new book, "Something Borrowed" by Emily Griffin (I think - don't have it in front of me).  I saw the preview for the movie that's coming out & I like to read the books first, just so I can critique the movie and find all the differences.  Speaking of movies - can't wait to see "Water for Elephants".  I read the book a year or so ago not even knowing about the movie.  Looks like Will better be planning some date nights for us!

Hope everyone has a fun and safe Easter!!

Always Something

Its been one of those weeks and its only Tuesday.  The weekend was mostly great - we got some much needed yard work done on the house, but didn't get to ride our bikes due to the rain on Saturday.  Then, Sunday afternoon, my friend and I threw a baby shower for another friend at my house.  It was the first time lots of my friends had been to the new house so that was exciting, however, it was lots of cleaning before and after - but well worth it.

But my little brother was in a car accident Sunday as well :(  He is just fine (THANK GOD) and so is his friend that was with him and the guy in the other car.  Unfortunately, both vehicles were totalled.  This is his second car accident in 6 months - I feel bad for my parents and the insurance premium they are about to get hit with - plus he's only 16.  This just proves teenagers are not the best drivers - accidents happen, but goodness!  This is why I do not ride with him - haha!  I swear this boy will be the death of me - he causes to much stress and worry!

Then, I started with the sniffles yesterday.  I think someone must have shared their germs with me this weekend, but I keep telling myself "I'm not getting sick!".  So far, I'm staying strong!!

And then, not to keep sounding like Eeyore, but my poor Sophie had to go to the vet - AGAIN.  She has a bad heart, which is not new news...she's had a murmur for most of her life - graded 3 to 4.  But, now that she's 6, the vet recommended some X-rays and an EKG to see how things are going....not so fabulous.  Her heart is enlarged and working overtime, so now she's going to be on some heart meds.  Her vet is sending the results to a doggy cardiologist for further review, so we are waiting those results and the plan of attack to keep my girl healthy.  Her behavior is fine (well, she has energy, not the most obedient bulldog, that's for sure), so he said not to be too worried at this point.  Keeping my fingers crossed that just a pill will do the trick!

On a positive note, I've picked up on my fundraising for the Great Strides walk in May!  We are just about to hit $2,000 - aren't my family and friends AWESOME!!

That's all for now - have a great rest of the week!  I'll keep you posted when I hear about my Sophie girl :)

Ooops

I spoke too soon - I missed a Cayston treatment yesterday :(  Will and I went to our office in Greenwood yesterday (about an hour away).  I packed up my work stuff, then packed up my nebulizer and handsets so that I could do one treatment on the car ride there and the other in the afternoon.  We load up the stuff, put Sophie in the back seat and are on our way.  About 15-20 minutes into the ride, I pull out my Nebulizer bag and get all set.  I reach for the meds to mix up & I completely forgot to get it out of the fridge! AHH!!

I was still able to get 2 done luckily, so just one in the morning and I'm done with this round - woohoo!!

I've been keeping up with Zumba - this was week 4 of going twice each week!  Unfortunately, I didn't get to ride my bike last weekend since I was gone, but Will and I got up early this mroning to squeeze in 7 miles before work.  And my goal is to go tomorrow as long as the weather is nice.

Happy Friday & I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

CF Update

Quick update:  Almost done with this round of Cayston - woohoo!! My last day is Friday, 4/15.  Again, I must brag that I was a pro & didn't miss a treatment.  I even took it to NJ with me last weekend - no problems at airport security :)

Got the results from my sputum culture from my March CF clinic.  As normal, Pseudomonas was present, but I also cultured Filamentous Fungus - huh?  That's a new one for me, so I emailed my doc & CF nurse immediately.  They said it shows up in CF patients sometimes, but is nothing to worry about now and I don't need any meds to make it go away...so I'm hoping it goes away on its own!  It better!

Cough has increased slightly, perhaps from the traveling, but feel just fine & dandy.

Jersey Weekend

I had a great, but exhausting weekend in New Jersey at my sister's dance competition.  I didn't do a single thing, but sitting can really wear you out.  How she did all those dances, I have not idea...and they do this 5-6 times in about a 3 month span - holy cow!  Here is an awesome pic of my sis:

The competition was like a cross between "Real Housewives of NJ" and "Toddlers & Tiaras" - haha!  There was make-up, hair & costume changes galore.  All the parents were super nice that were part of my sister's team, but had a run in with another "dance mom".  She yelled at me for sitting at a table that she claims was "hers"... WTF?!  (meanwhile the table was empty when we sat down)  My stepmom left me unattended for 2 minutes and I get yelled at - haha!  Good thing I'm a nice person or I'd have had a few choice words for her. That's my goal in life to be more confrontational - I just let stuff slide too easily sometimes.  Guess she thought I was younger than I am and could boss me around - I don't think so!

I got to surprise my youngest sister on Friday when my dad & I picked her up from school.  It was so cute when she saw me, she yelled "that's my sister!!!".  I felt like a celebrity :)  Here's a pic of us:

An the post wouldn't be compete without a pic of Zoe - love her!  Makes me want a little lap dog :)

Craziness

What a crazy week!  I didn't know if I was coming or going, I had so much going on it seems.  My poor brain was fried.  So, finally had a moment of sanity to check in.

I've finished week 2 of Cayston & going strong.  Lungs feel clear as ever - I think its helping with the pollen too (if that's possible?!!?).  Everything around here is yellow - STILL.  Its so gross.  Usually, I feel like my head is about to explode and get a little congested, but I'm feeling great (knock on wood).

I've done Zumba for two weeks now with some friends & we are addicted.  Also been doing great at riding my bike - we put in a little over 10 miles last week.  I'm missed exercising these past few months.  I feel energized and motivated after exercising.  We rode about 8 miles on Saturday and I felt like I could keep going!

Will's determined to lose some weight & I could spare a few myself.  Although I enjoy winter & my extra padding, its time to burn it off for bathing suit season...which is pretty much here.  One day it is 50 and the next its 80 - got to love South Carolina weather.

I had a great weekend - the highlight: I went to visit a wonderful friend & her newborn baby boy!  He was such a little cutie, I held him the whole time I was there & he slept like a rock.  Got to catch up on our girl talk too!  There's nothing like holding a newborn - they are so small & it makes you realize how precious life is.  They make the cutest faces and funniest noises too!

CF Appointment 3.14.19

And just like that, another 3 months has passed by.  I headed to my CF appointment on Wednesday, March 13th. I saw lots of my favorite peo...
